Timely World Cup Predictions

If you’re DVR’ing, stop reading now. Otherwise, Paraguay is giving Italy a beating on everything but the scoreboard (1-1 after another huge goalkeeper mistake in the form of Paraguay’s keeper missing a punch). Japan beat Cameroon in what is wrongly described as a huge upset (still an upset nonetheless).

Anyhow, in my pool I have the Netherlands winning it all, with the US getting out of the group stage (but no further than that). So far so good as Holland won this morning over a decent Denmark team.

The fact that ESPN is streaming these live – for free and in great quality – is the highlight of this tournament for me, thus far. Those damn horns – or as I like to call them, “portable Dave O’Brien’s” (nothing kills like soccer jokes!) – have to be the lowlight.

    That joke was totally kevorkian.

  2. JC says:

Are you watching this? If Paraguay can find a goal this would a gigantic upset.

  3. JC says:

Damn it! It ends 1-1. Italy came on big time at the end, but thankfully could not take the lead. In case you can’t tell, I hate the Italian team and not just because they’re the best. They routinely fake injuries and get away with some atrocious dives. Same goes for Brazil and France, but who doesn’t hate France?

  4. Bob says:

Faking injuries is the most unsavory thing about European soccer. If they have to go out on a stretcher (especial one of those skinny stretchers carried by those guys who run like pigeons) then they should not be able to return to that game.

  5. Anne says:

Hey – have y’all found someplace that is streaming the handful of games being aired on ABC?

  6. JC says:

ESPN 3 is showing all the matches live

  7. Anne says:

Hmm – Sunday during the Germany/Australia match they were showing college baseball. I will check again, though! Thanks!
