Joshua is believed to have told doctors at Selly Oak Hospital not to give him a blood transfusion on religious grounds.
Jehovah’s Witnesses refuse transfusions because they believe the use of products derived from blood is forbidden by God.
Being ignorant of English law, I have no idea whether a decision like this can be left up to a minor. Or whether a fifteen year-old is even considered a minor in England. In America of course, parental consent is required for medical treatment on a minor. Much like I can’t have sex with the hot 16 year-old barista at my local coffee shop, even if she agrees, a doctor can’t treat her without the consent of a parent (I think there are exceptions to that law, but I could be wrong).
What’s my point? I’m just curious how all of this shakes out and whether there is a moral responsibility to stop a brain-washed teenager from being so stupid he kills himself in the process. One thing I do know: it’s an unusually horrific way to die
crushed by a car as it crashed into a West Midlands shop
But hey, God’s will and all. What are you gonna do.
